Walmart announced plans Friday to make Christmas decorations available for purchase in stores, restaurants and online through the holiday season.
The move is part of Walmart’s strategy to reach consumers during the holiday shopping season, with the retailer hoping to boost its bottom line by enticing customers to shop online and buy at Walmart.
The announcement comes on the heels of Walmart announcing that it would launch a holiday gift card program through its online shopping platform that will give customers free shipping on orders over $50.
The promotion is a departure from the traditional retailing model, where stores have to offer discounts to customers for the purchase of goods, and the company has said it will be selling more than 10 million of the cards over the next four years.
Walmart’s decision to make the Christmas decorations accessible through the online shopping site comes just days after the retailer announced it would start offering its own Christmas themed gifts through its digital store, Walmart Gifts.
The retailer is also planning to offer a Christmas themed shirt, scarf and hat.
